In Spanish, ordinal numbers agree in number and gender with the noun they modify.

That means that ordinal numbers can be masculine or feminine (primero, primera) and singular or plural (primeros, primeras).

Masculine ordinal numbers are written with the symbol °. Feminine forms are written with the symbol ª.

Native Spanish speakers use ordinal numbers up to 10° when they speak.

To refer to higher ordinal numbers, they use the corresponding cardinal numbers.

● Trabajo en el segundo (2°) piso.

● Trabajo en el piso once (11).

● Vivo en el tercer (3°) piso.

● Vivo en el piso quince (15).

Notice that primero and tercero are ordinal numbers. Once and quince are cardinal numbers.

In written language, ordinal numbers from 10 onwards are used to refer to events and anniversaries.
